According to the latest update from the Customs Department, the British House of Commons has already approved the revised UK Agreement on Withdrawal from the EU, and ratification by the European Parliament is expected to be completed by the end of January. In such a case, from 01/02/2020 the Revised Agreement, which shall enter into force in all EU Member States, provides the possibility of applying a transitional period until 31/12/2020. During the transitional period, the European acquis on UK-EU trade will continue to apply same as today.
At the same time, negotiations between the EU and the UK on the Future Partnership Agreement have begun, which will govern the future relations between the two parties and enter into force after the end of the transitional period, should negotiations be completed by the end of the year. More information will be provided as further updates take place. On the basis of the above, the customs procedures after 01/02/2020 will be exactly the same as the current ones until the end of the transitional period.
